Pola Reydburd
M.A., Educational Leadership and Administration, University of Alabama, 1983 B.A. with Honors, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL, 1966.

After many years as a Literatures and Humanities teacher, Ms. Reydburd received an advanced degree in Education. She was Director of Development at the American School (Colegio Bolivar) in Cali, Colombia, and later became Director of Colegio Jefferson, another bilingual school in the city.

From 1984 -1988, Ms. Reydburd was Executive Director of B'nai B'rith International District 23 (Caribbean), a non-profit Jewish service organization based in Washington D.C. While occupying that position, she coordinated activities for 21 volunteer groups (1600 members) in seven countries, led leadership training programs, organized an International Jewish New Year cards children’s art competition and managed an Artists’ and Speakers’ Bureau.

After moving to Miami, she became the Executive Director of the Bakehouse Art Complex, where she administered a 60-studio rental facility, coordinated exhibitions, and established joint programs with cultural groups and social service agencies. From 1991- 1995, as Assistant to the Associate Dean of the University of Miami’s Graduate School of international Studies, Ms. Reydburd organized international conferences, coordinated Ph.D. examinations and contributed to an anthology on drug trafficking.

Ms. Reydburd served on the Board of Directors of Museo de Arte Moderno La Tertulia (Cali, Colombia) from 1988 - 1989. Local community service has included the City of Miami Beach Hispanic Affairs Committee; Women’s Business Development Center at FIU; Daily Bread Food Bank; and City of Miami Commission on the Status of Women (Chairperson 1995-98). In February 2005, she completed a four-year term as the Chairperson of the Miami Beach Art in Public Places Committee.

For the past ten years, she has been a freelance grant writer for cultural nonprofit organizations (i.e., Miami Beach Botanical Garden, Miami Children’s Choir; Miami Beach Sister Cities International Program; Miami World Theater Festival, and MIAMIntelligence). The grants that Ms. Reydburd wrote generated over one million two hundred thousand dollars for a handful of organizations.

One of the highlights of the Miami Beach Sister Cities International program was the creation of a cultural exchange program with Japan. In 2000, government officials and over 100 artists from Fujisawa (Miami Beach’s Sister City in Japan), traveled to South Florida as follow-up to a trip made to Japan by Miami Beach functionaries and residents. The exchange continued with a visit by two visual artists (affiliated to Art Center/South Florida) and student/musicians from the Guitar Ensemble at Miami Beach Senior High School. They toured four cities in Japan and participated in community programs and presentations. Consequently, two Japanese artists spent 10 weeks in Miami Beach and, the following year, one South Florida artists spent three months in Japan.

Ms. Reydburd travels extensively and has published chronicles of her travels. Her most recent “exotic” trip was to two countries along the Silk Road of Central Asia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Her latest PowerPoint presentations are “Markets along the Silk Road of Central Asia” and “Arts and Crafts of Central Asia.”
